About Me

HeadshotHi!  My name is Alissa, and I live in New Jersey with my hubby and three little girls, 5 years old and younger.  In my pre-mom life, I utilized my MA in Psychology to coach leaders on developing their skills, engaging in better decision making, and creating the most effective work environment possible for their employees.  It was challenging and fun, but after my first daughter was born, I decided to leave the corporate world to concentrate my energy on creating the healthiest environment possible for my own family.

The Simply Wholesome Kitchen blog began in 2009 as a way for me to keep track of my recipes, but over the years I have learned more than I ever imagined about our food system and the conflicting and potentially misleading messages we’re getting every day.  My family’s food habits have evolved along with my learning, and the changes have expanded to include not only the foods we eat, but the products we use to cook and store food, the personal care products we use on our bodies, the products we use to clean our home, and how we use our dollars to support what we believe in.

Along with my family’s journey, my vision and goals for my blog and my work evolved as well.  In 2012, I decided to become a Certified Health Coach via the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN).  This, in combination with my degree in Psychology, cooking training at the Institute for Culinary Education (ICE), my professional coaching experience and, finally, my own reading and obsessive experimentation, launched me on a new path.

I finally had the tools AND the passion to help other moms feel confident and relaxed while feeding their families SIMPLY WHOLESOME meals every day!  I’ve found a great balance in my own home between eating delicious, nourishing food WITHOUT feeling overwhelmed by the work or all of the scary messages out there, and I am so excited to help others with their own journeys.
